1. Philip Webster in today’s Times:

Mr Brown gambled by breaking with tradition to campaign in this contest. He gambled again by agreeing with his wife, Sarah, that she should do her bit. She did it by making regular visits to the constituency from their home in the neighbouring seat.

2. Severin Carrell in today’s Guardian:

[Gordon Brown] had invested his personal reputation in Labour’s campaign and, in a break from tradition, allowed his wife, Sarah, to campaign at least seven times in the seat.
